Add a few flowers. Fresh cut or on canvas. (The paintings will last a lifetime!) Place art in unexpected places. Isn’t this one of the most “visited” rooms in your house? Do you sometimes lock yourself in when kids are screaming (just sayin’)? Art in unexpected places makes me happy, and I bet it will make you happy, too.
Details
Elegant simplicity. Original paintings enliven the shelves and wall. DRG ceramic vessels in shades of warm white anchor the table. A tall hand-painted vase evokes memories of travels abroad. And a few stems of leaves and flowers from the garden complete the setting in this light-filled space at the heart of the home.
Slow down for art
Life moves fast. The art on my walls slows me down, in a good way. Each individual work in my home holds a memory of a place, a time, a person. Sometimes I recall the memory, and sometimes I notice a new detail. Often a painting starts a conversation with my children or with friends.
My walls and tabletops are filled with art that is special to me. On a typically hurried day, art slows me down—to see, to appreciate, and to remember.
